Love Meares Island, truly special place. Isn't the tree of life meant to be over 1000 years old.

 

I hope the first nation continue to stand up to the logging companies and the place is never felled.

There is another island near by that the community bought(for the value of the timber)off the logging company.

Thanks for posting. Heading back to van island next week from the mainland. Was going to head to Tofino and Meares island. Port Renfrew is suppose to have the tallest Douglas fir in the world. Did you stop at Cathedral grove on your way to the west coast?
