it must take some load pete surely, and if it breaks and the sling moves away then how are you going to get it back without a lot of faffing about and if you were hanging then you are going to pretty stuck if you cant get your strop round the stem or branch

Some load, yes, but minimal. But if you work through the system you will see where the load is applied - through the climbing line and hitch. When i tried the system out, the prussic was made from some 3mm cord!!!! and functioned perfectly

Point taken about the inconveniance though

i only know about the faffing about because i thought i was being clever and stuck the sling miles up on the ground and then started climbing arm over arm, then i realised i couldnt reach the knot, i was told about this by steve and matt at capel but i just got excited, i had to climb up about 30 feet until i got to the first limb until i managed to strop on and sort it all out:blushing:

Just looked at your picture again and that little biner, could be at times, definitely load bearing. Admittedly its at only 1/4 the load ...or could it get up to 1/2 the load ???

If it fails it would be mostly inconvenient as it is inside a closed system but why have a weak point in there ...unless there is a reason??

yeah bro, thats the one. apart from its now tachyon, thats what i use every day. Ive no problem at all with the keyring crab but i do now use a tiny kong one thats rated to 200kgs-mainly for size though not strength. try and get your sling as short as poss (in your pic)
