As above - just picking up the odd weekend job for friends and relatives at the moment but hopefully ramping up soon.

I'm planning on getting PL, personal injury and theft to begin with. I'm aware that prof indemnity and property damage etc are also covered - but thought this wouldn't be worth it while I'm only on small jobs where I'm unlikely to go near a house.

Was thinking a low limit for PL to begin with, say, £500k - any suggestions?

Thanks

Dan

PL is fine if you're working alone.

If you're not you are legally obliged to have EL.

PL isn't a legal requirement, but it's a good idea, so is theft cover.

Personal injury cover is also a good idea, but I wouldn't bother with PI in your situation.

As mark says but I'm pretty sure the minimum amount is 1 million, if you have anyone helping you even cash in hand they are under your command so classed as an employee so you will need EL as well, bear in mind if doing arb work be careful that your covered properly, many firms do PL insurance for landscapers, gardeners etc reasonable cheap but you need to make sure it coveres you for what ever tree work you are doing.

Ian is correct in what he is saying.

Public Liability is not a legal requirement but you will find it is the foundation of most polices you would look to take out.

He is also correct in his advice regarding Employers Liability. Employers Liability would be required if you intend to take on an employee or use subcontractors who would work under your control. This is a legal requirement.

If you would like any further information or a quotation you can call me directly on 0113 259 3560.

I would also advise trying to establish what exemptions / exclusions, if any, apply to the policy as, IME, these can vary significantly and some (one in particular) can be restrictive in terms of the type of work etc. you may be covered for.

Cheers..
