Gibson ES335 .

Jimmy Page model is a Gibson Les Paul - never seen him with a 335...

 

I know, the dialogue I was responding to was verifying the difference between sunburst and flamed maple and not the 335 question. Been listening to LZ since the late 70s so know what JP plays:001_rolleyes::lol:

technically this is known as curly maple not flame.

 

every tom dick and harry advertise their guitars (whatever the actual figure) as a flame figure and they are rarely flame, it just sounds better i suppose.

 

a true flame pattern is actually just a veneer cut to show the crown cut grain as a candle flame shape or you can call it a gothic arch.

 

it can also apply to the flame of a crotch cut a bit like this.
