That is what I was thinking now where will be the best place to get hold of one if it's not silly money I may just replace it anyway

 

Hello Wizz as everybody has said it sounds like it's on the electrical side there are a lot of connections start with the on off switch I got several obsolete robin bits here with sachs dolmar part numbers which is a headache I done a coil for a ey15 engine last year is it pull start or electric start and is it the black engine or yellow

 

I hope you haven't been using that old t&t petrol :lol::lol:

Hi Andrew it is a pull start machine I will upload a photo when I work out how. it has got a yellow petrol tank on it I am using top quality hatherliegh fuel so can't be that 😂. I will also be in touch sometime about a saw I still not got round to that I've had lots of other stuff to sort out and the garden been getting out hand out there in wilds

Close up of coil

That coil does look as if it has been around for some time and chances are is due to be replaced. Looks dont really tell the full story but the cars from 1960s onwards with points, coils and condensers often gave the same symptoms you described in your original post. Fail when hot but go again when allowed to cool. Had that many times.

I haven't looked but if points and condenser were easy enough to get hold of I would change them as well as the coil if I can get one of those aswell. I also had plenty of problems with coils playing up on cars I had a mini for my first car and there were still few cars about with them when I learnt my trade in the garage

Looks like some have points and later ones don't so will need to have a good look when I get time bit I am still thinking coil in the back of my head

yep soumds like coil issue, although i wonder if the HT lead is arching out when it warms up? Might be able to test the coil and/or replace the HT lead and plug cap.

That coil does look a bit suspect, if it has been outside then water would run down the plug wire and if not perfectly sealed, get inside.

I use one of these plug testers,

eBay item number:

401133684665

When it stops, stick the plug tester on and you know straight away if it's a lack of spark.
