to employ or not to employ

Due to the increased workload i could do with a third lad to keep stuff running smoothly, i have managed to get another pair of hands lately a couple of days a week and we fly through jobs. My only concern is 3 men doing small domestic jobs is a bit pointless and a cash burner! we do anything from pruning a manky fruit tree to felling & clearing construction sites, so the times when i need a 3rd man vary! as of now i have roughly 4 weeks of work for a 3 man team.

At what point did you decide to employ others? the way i see it i can either stay as i am keep ticking over and loose a load of site work or invest in another pair of hands and push for more lucrative jobs

How about a decent reliable subby that you can call on as and when you need them would save you a lot of money when your doing the smaller jobs then earn you the money on the bigger ones.

I only know contract climbers who if i am being honest at 120 - 150 a day are too dear to be dragging brash. last time i had a subbie groundie in he didn't want to do too much ground work! a lot of site clearance jobs get sprung on us so having somebody i know will be there when i need them is useful. Most subbies work from their diary which is fair, i wouldn't expect somebody to sack other jobs off for mine.

I only know contract climbers who if i am being honest at 120 - 150 a day are too dear to be dragging brash. last time i had a subbie groundie in he didn't want to do too much ground work! a lot of site clearance jobs get sprung on us so having somebody i know will be there when i need them is useful. Most subbies work from their diary which is fair, i wouldn't expect somebody to sack other jobs off for mine.

I already have 2 vans 2 chippers 2 trailers 2 stump grinders a tractor a loader and no money

 

Its not machinery i need its man power
