I went and looked at 2 uke trees yesterday that on first impressions had bad wind / salt burn (they are only 1/4 mile max from the coast and burnt on the right side for the prevailing wind from the sea.)

 

On closer inspection the lower branches are also dying back from the tips and all the leafs are covered in black spots, some with the top half of each leaf dead, and crusty.

 

Here Is one of the trees, wind comes from left of pic, lower growth on left is a cherry under it.

Second tree, wind comes from the right on this one. Any ideas as to what it is if not wind burn? The customer wants to save the second one if poss but open to removal and replanting with a native tree if it's a lost cause.
