What to do with yew??

This weeks yew haul.. Can't just be logged up surely. Very tempted to buy an norwood mn26 and try boarding some up, opinions?

 

 

If any of them are 6' (as mentioned before) you can get good money for them, even down to 3' they can spliced/scarfed to meal a longer bow. To add value to particularly good ones you can quarter it and sell quadrants for up to £75

Quite a few around Suffolk by the look of it. I talked to some old boys from the East Suffolk Woodturners at Weird and Wonderful Wood, but they are the one club I can't see details of online.

This might be of interest -

 

Yew clippings to make chemotherapy | Cancer Research UK

 

They need clippings as an ingredient in anti-cancer drug, but not the timber, unfortunately. Might be worth looking into, for guys that do a lot of hedges, could be good money.

 

I think they can artificially synthesise the extractives now so the clippings are no longer required.

its a pity they couldn't do something with conifer chip we would be rich i tell you rich

 

You could sell the chip to the "Tax-Sponging-Hippy" at a special low low rate. A one time only special Arbtlalk chance to get in on a lucrative business!!! Just bag the chippings and sell the bags outside supermarkets as hamster bedding!! Earn $$$ Act now!!!
