100 ft of Wellingtonia !!!!!

I have just won a job to remove a 100ft Welly. in Winchester area. The tree is to be removed using a mobile crane ans I wondered if anybody knows anybody who may be interested in some BIG wood.

This tree is 2.16mtr diameter at 1.2mtrs from ground!

 

Any ideas ??

The wood is pretty crapmate. Although very resistant to decay it is also very brittle, and unsuitable for construction use. It is good for shingle making and cladding, bugt has a tendency to shatter, although as you are using a crane you should get away with it. I have a feeling it is pretty fire resistant too. Certainly the bark is non-flamable.

Is the tree right next to the house ???? what the acces like

If you can get a grab lorry to it then I'll have it! Although you'll have to saw up into 3 tonne sections which will prob equate to around 8'

 

Or another idea is I could come and mill on site with the Peterson if you send me some pics would be handy... You can have some of the sawn timber in exchange if you have a use for it....

It is lovely timber- younger trees especially, as they dont shatter whent hey hit the deck. For a long while it was mooted as an alternative to redwoods, but never really took hold. Love to see a pic of your table Ed if you have one. I grew up with an enourmous wellingtonia infront of the house, you could see it literally miles away.
