Never been asked fot it and have worked in plenty if schools, why would you need it if your not in contact with kids?

I was told by my Nursery job that I did not need a check has long has you are not coming into Contact with the Children or into the classroom .

Ste

As above!

Unless you're "teaching" the kids how to do your work, forget it. Do you think the plumber that works at the school is CRB checked. Complete tosh.

Yep utter crap and pc gone mad. You only need CRB if your working directly with the kids or coming into Contact with them.

I "needed" a dbs check to photograph a motocross meeting that had a kids race in it, between the ages of 12 and 16.

Totally bonkers!

They also wanted to use my images in return for crediting me on the website. Guess where I told them to stick it....

This does sound crazy. If you are reducing a tree on a boundary for example why could possibly need it? If it's outside of school hours it's even crazier.

If the client is happy to foot the bill and a bit of administration time then fair enough but if not I'd not bother.

An enhanced DRB is done by the third party you are working for. I have three enhanced DRB checks that are all valid for places that I have worked in the past but they are not transferrable (although, I believe this is changing) Most schools choose to have someone "chaperone" contractors or have work done during the holidays, as it saves a lot of paperwork. HM Gov will send you a comprehensive guide if you e-mail them.

I guess it's up to the customer what they stipulate as prerequisite qualifications. I'd do it if that's what they want - but it'd come with a cost attached.

I'd paint myself orange if that's what they want, but it'd come with a cost attached.

When some of these customers realise their apparently superfluous stipulations come with financial implications they might take a more pragmatic approach

Until then.... It comes with a cost attached!
