You can get a converter to run it but otherwise you will have to change motor has the wiring is totally different ie if its a older machine the wiring in motor will all be the same colour except Earth. To change motor direction you swapped any one of the 3 lives over to change direction, also when we lost a Phase the motor would run half speed .

Memory serves me correct they are wired up in Star/ Delta Series .

240v Motors are fairly cheap ,checkout Machine mart.

As above, but if you get a phase converter you could run several machines off the same unit.

Also with an electronic phase converter you get continuously variable speed control.

Is a phase converter worth investing in?? I was wondering whether you'd get the same performance out of the tools.

I've never heard of this option before and over the years I've walked away from buying 3 phase tools because I never thought I could run them on 240v. This is useful knowledge for the future of the converter does what it says on the tin.

Tool junky forever ;)

I bought a Myford lathe a few moths ago which had a 3 phase motor and I had no idea what I needed to do to run it from 240v until I contacted these people Drives Direct - Digital Phase Converters - Home Page they were more than helpful. All I needed to do was send them a photo of the motor label and they told me which inverter I needed and also how to wire it. Everything works as it should but the only problem I have now is working out how to turn metal properly !!!!

I have wondered the same for years but still can't imagine how a great big 3 phase motor could run off a 13amp plug no matter what magic the electronics in the middle can offer.

There must be a hp/Kw cap under which the magic can work?

if i was you walk away the machine is old as the hills if you look at .liquidtion companys that sell companys assets off you will not pay ebay prices , and most of these company good up to date machines . i have had some very cheap machines that work??

I used one of those for years in the tool room when I was younger . They go on forever . As far as I know its still running now . Good machines .
