Wisdom, Advice, Insight

Over the past year I have deviated from my line of employment in the outdoor educational industry to pursue a career in the Arboriculture Industry,

re-establishing myself on an academic level by studying Arboriculture at Myerscough college,

Moving swiftly on,

I have joined this forum for advice; advice on how to go from being educated to being employed in the arboriculture industry.

At this moment in time I have accumulated a Subsidiary Degree in Arboriculture with the following qualifications:

- CG (NPTC) L2 Award Felling and Processing Trees up to 380 mm

- CG (NPTC) L2 Award in Safe Use of Manually Fed Wood-chipper

- CG (NPTC) L2 Award in Tree Climbing and Rescue

- CG (NPTC) L2 Award Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting

If you have been Employed in said industry from straight out of education how did you go about doing so?

Any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated

- Stephen

Sorry. I'm a little sceptical.

Get in touch with local arb firms. Offer voluntary work where you might make a difference, be enthusiastic. Be eager about the next opportunity. Go out there and MAKE them hire you, this may be the one opportunity that the PlayStation works in YOUR favour, while the old bastards work out what's happening!

Stephen - not sure of your age obviously, but if you cant drive - learn to, but if you have a post 1997 licence - get lessons for use of a trailer and van if necessary.

I have known chaps try to get work without driving licences before and its just unrealistic. Being able to tow is a good addition if you are putting yourself about for work.
