Large saws

Hi all

Was looking to get a 661.

Any recommendations on anything of the same output on the market don't want to go any bigger then an 880

Don't mind something a little smaller too

I have a 661 and can use it all day as a general saw or for big work all week if necessary, the 880 can be used for a day as a large saw and then I really dislike it for about a week or till I recover.

I have a mate who's got a 441 and IMHO it's not much better than my 391 or the 411

Not a big fan of the 441 but a 660 is a fantastic saw but the 661 has really caught my eye with the auto tune

also i run both the 391 and 661 on either 20" or 23" bars for every day use, if i need to i have a 32" for the big trunks for the 661. anything over 32" i break out the old 051 or borrow a 880 but thats very rare

Hi Ryan,

 

I run a 661 on a 28" light bar. Find that with this combination it's well balanced enough to do compound cuts and simple crosscutting. Also we all run 3/8 sthil chain so does not require different reels or files.

 

We do have a 880 with 48" bar. But all of us will do almost anything to avoid getting it out. With the exception of a few windblown situations it never came out this year and that's not just because it's the only "shared" saw in the company!

 

Most good dealers will get a demo from Stihl so I'd always try before you spend that money.

Ms 461 is savage torquey. Be sure to order a high output oiler, whatever you get.
