Titan electric saw (Screwfix) not oiling - suggestions?

My Titan electric saw, used for logging at home, has stopped oiling.

 

I have had the bar and side off but can't see anything visibly wrong; any suggestions on where to go next? My guess is there's a blockage somewhere so the oiling mechanism will need to be dismantled but any suggestions are welcome

Try running running some petrol through the tank first it may clear the blockage.

Could be the oiler pump if it has one

I've always found that my Titan doesn't oil a great deal - you can't see the oil coming off the chain when revved next to a clean surface for instance. But the oil level in the tank does drop slowly, and the bar seems to remain cool enough. I also find that cutting a big trunk makes it oil more than lots of short bursts.

 

Are you sure it's not oiling slowly rather than not oiling at all?

I had thought exactly that, since the level in the tank did seem to be going down a bit when I used it previously. However, yesterday I ringed up about a cube and a half of arisings, plus had to slice up into logs a couple of knotty pieces and also had a go at making a Swedish candle. The oil level barely if at all moved and when I finished one of the longer cuts, the tip of the bar was hot - blued and smoking, with the metal distorted from heat. 😩

 

Fortunately I have got a spare bar, so the old one has gone in the bin and the spare is fitted. But I don't want the same thing to happen again.

Yeah, that doesn't sound good!

 

Before putting on the new bar, try revving it a bit and see if oil leaks out of the oiler hole, near the bar mounts? If not, try petrol in the oil tank, as above...

Word of caution.

The saw has a brushed electric motor which can be prone to arcing (sparks!)

Petrol vapour can ignite with a spark!!!!

Maybe white spirit or something less flammable then?

Had the same thought about petrol.

 

I was thinking of trying paraffin... got about 600 litres in a tank normally used for running my boiler and having used paraffin in one of those Sheen flame guns in the past, I seem to remember it being a PITA to light with a match, let alone a spark from a motor ;-)

Did you ever get this sorted? Mine's not oiling now either! Bar grooves and oil hole are clear, oil filler cap vent doesn't seem to be blocked...
