What about L200 - it seems they're a bit cheaper than Rangers and the like. I doubt very much it will be towing for a while yet (nothing massive anyway). Will be more used getting me and saws etc to sites and some firewood collecting.

I've got up to about 6-7k now. Does mileage really matter? Newer with more miles or older with less miles?

With that i would go for a very good condition low milage 2003 ish ranger or hilux way simpler and cheaper to fix good motors and theyll leave you with a large chunk of ur budget left for some nice tyres on it

My Orwellian 1984 extra-cab 4X4 Toy, like me, is still functional, though a bit cosmetically worn n torn!

I'm averaging about 125K per engine. This being number 4.

Like so many things of mine, it's highly modified, and barely squeaks by the bi-annual CA smog emissions test.

33 inch tires demanded 4:88 gearing of course.

Ranger. Had mine a year now and can't fault it. 2008 model with 81k on when bought, paid £5k. A right deal. Got it from an finance underwriter in Newcastle. Have seen them come up with reasonable mileage for less than £4k. Try and get one with the plastic arch guard kit fitted.

Looks like its narrowing down to the choice between a

10 plate XL in white, 102k miles, FSH, 1 owner

or a

57 plate Thunder in black with 108k, FSH, 6 owners

What should I look for in both models? is either a stronger contender?

10 plate seems the better choice

Will be collecting the truck this saturday so I'm sorting insurance etc.

One of the questions is 'do you carry hazardous goods' to which I answered no - and have since thought that does the saws and jerry can full of fuel count? Is there a limit before it becomes hazardous and does it make that much difference?

You need to mention it but it should not make any difference.

I'm with nfu and always told them and it's not sent the policy up as far as I know.
