have tried that on the clutch side,no play at all, will try the other side tomorrow

If one bearing has started to fail it can sometimes be hard to find play checking by hand , if the cage has started to fail the bearings bunch up when running causing vibration , i have had 3 in this year already with bearing issues on the clutch side . Check your crankcase bolts are not coming loose, found a few with this problem .

Change the auto tune unit on top of the carb, they are not madly expensive about £30 from memory.

bearing in mind the 576 has the 1st gen Autone, you would have to replace the entire carb unit. That's what i had to do anyway!

All in it was a little over £150.

well had the flywheel off,all looks good under there, took head off, crank turns ok,nice and smooth,no play, one thing that did turn up was a small hole in the little impulse pipe under the carb holder that is screwed onto the head, its not an overly big hole but its a hole on the underside, impossible to see until taken off, could this be the trouble possibly ?

A hole in the impulse line would generally cause the idle to be high and flat out revs to be higher than normal and possible seizure after that.

There is a slight possibility that the hole is causing fuel shortage at high revs causing a reverberation as the fuel kicks in and out but not a usual symptom but who knows with autotune - it may be compensating for the impulse hole!

Nice one well done . Small hole causing big vibration . Write that one in the book !
