This subject never ceases to amaze me!

 

Why is it that professional people are dealing in a trade where there are no weights and measures control?

 

I read again and again how much people are selling a "load" for, or how many kgs are in their bags etc.

 

Its all TOSH!

 

How on earth is the customer supposed to decipher through all this?

 

If i was to advertise my "loads" at £360 delivered, and my competitor down the road was selling at £200 would i get many enquiries? I doubt it very much!

 

If the customer rings the other guy and asks how big his load is, is it ok to say "well its a tranny load just rounded off a bit"?

 

Also is it not wrong to sell by weight without explaining about seasoning? What about differences in species? What would the customer prefer tipped on their drive, a ton of wet poplar or a ton of dry beech?

 

Only one answer as far as i can see, thats by VOLUME and state if its SEASONED, HARDWOOD, or SOFTWOOD

What a great piece that is. Couldn't agree more. You've got to sell by volume or at least by "approx" volume so that customers can make some sort of comparison. Then they only have to make a choice about the sellers quality of firewood, not a comparison about how much their gonna get tipped in the drive!

Trying to tell people about volume or weight of bag can be difficult do I just say there bigger than the ones you buy out of the garages and diy shops which cost nearly twice as much. Does the trick

a friend of mine has been selling his logs in cord length log piles at 6ft long by 4ft wide by 4ft tall and that is a mectric tonne

There is a MASSIVE variation in the weights of different timber.

Sell buy volume loose . Otherwise you buy in timber with your cash sit on it for 12 months and watch half the value evaporate ? no brainer to me.
