mine wears a 36" on 3/8 chain and would say it pulls it fine better than a 28" for some reason just feels like its made to carry a 36" !!! not sure about a 42" though ?

im just guessing that they use the same solid tip husky bars on the 395xp as they do on the 3120xp. if so u could get away with a 42" bar wouldnt have alot of power with it but still would get job done if needed.

Matty, is your 36" 3/8s bar a husky? In the catalogue they only list 3/8s bars up to 28", so to go up to anything bigger would mean changing to .404, which might slow a 395 down a bit.

no its oregon power match i think it could be listed as a 404 bar because if i take the DL number to get a chain made its to short!

The exact number on the chain is 063/1 404 drive link symbal 104 any way it works a treat and i didnt fancy a 3120 or the ms66 wich stihl fit a 36" on out the box

I thought that husky bars only go up to 28" with a sprocket nose which is why it lists the 395 as taking that. They will as Matty said pull more (not sure about 42" mind!) but personnally wouldnt want to go on 404 pitch. Just get an 3/8 oregon bar
