Friction cord length.

Now this may sound like how long is a piece of string but whats a good starting length to have my friction cord at(eye to eye) while using a hitch climber?

 

I am guessing I will use a VT.

 

The cord is marlow 10mm double braid

The climbing rope is 13mm yale fire.

I use a few different lenghts depending on the cord but they usually range from 70cm to 90cm...ish!! haha. Thats on 8mm cord though.

My guys should have sent you 8mm double braid, we don't keep 10mm.

I use either 85cm or 90cm Ocean E2E sling on a hitchclimber. It keeps sitback to near minimum but allows your fingers to span the friction hitch. Be careful that your spliced eye doesn't interfere with the hitch though - a longer hitch cord would allow the hitch to sit above the spliced eye.

Best bet is buy a long length and tie in a fishermans on one end the one where you think you might need the other, dont cut the length off the tie your hitch and keep adjusting till it's right. Mark it, then undo it and measure

Cheers for the info fellas around about 90cm sounds good to me.

This ones 70cm, but for use without the HC I prefer tham as long as poss to get the maximum distance on each pull when ascending.

I used 1,05m for distel and 7cm long ends at the knot (8mm)

Tom D what kind of knot is that?

 

Also anyone got any links to threads on what knots to use and how to tie them, I have seen a few different ones on hear over the years but tbh I dont really know what I am searching for:blushing:
