Single or Dual rear wheels

Still looking for another 3.5 tonner. I have seen a tidy low mileage Iveco with a new tipper. But, it has been converted from an organic food delivery van. Plus side is it has never towed and not worked hard, minus is that it would have done lots of short stops and starts.

But my biggest concern is that it is only single rear wheels. It is still rated 3.5 ton, I believe it can tow the same (but not sure).

Most factory tippers are dual ergo it must be better right?

The LR copes with single, Anyone any experience with other 3.5 tonners?

Single wheels save a bit on weight but more likely to sink in soft ground

Twin wheels get mud, and worse, half bricks jammed between them, but the main consideration is what Bob says, the sum of the axle weights is often the same as the gross weight of a single wheel vehicle, so the maximum payload has to be in exactly the right place. Our transit rear axle can carry 2.4 of the 3.5 gross weight so as long as the capacity load is somewhere in the back it remains legal

Tyres will be rated to carry either way.

Most artic trailers on super singles now for good reason.

It does look lightweight when you are. Used to duals.

Less of a pain to check pressures. Transits aren't that good in the wet off-road with duals either unless you like drifting.

4x4 are nearly always single and they tow well.
