Trying to get market share I reckon, they've started paid only ads when you advertise business services now

Something new I learnt this morning, if you now end an item early, as info a deal out of eBay you still get charged the 10% selling fee at the highest bid, for example, I removed something bid at £310 and got charged £31.

 

I'm pretty sure it hadn't been like that in the past!

This happened to me a few months ago when selling a landy, the highest bid was 1600£, so i got charged £160 in fees to end it early.

 

Simple call them up, not live chat, phone them, tell them some story about it being broken and they will remove the fee.

Gumtree seems a lot easier and cheaper then ebay for posting ads, but like you say must have an ulterior motive behind it

Maybe so, but removing a listing with bids is a big n-no for ebay, they said they want bidders to be assured the item will finish correctly and not be removed.

 

 

Needless to say, a quick rant on the phone and it was removed.

The final selling fee on vehicles is 1% with a minimum of £20 and a maximum of £30, you must have listed it in the wrong place That is for private sellers, it's 0.9% with a minimum £17.39 and a maximum £30.43 for business. A friend of mine sells a few motorbikes on there and he does alright. No final fee on classifieds.

I also hadnt realised until yesterday that they also kindly take 10% of the postage cost. Which means I've now to start and charge slightly more for postage. It all seems to be getting slightly on the greedy side!!

I think its a good idea charging sellers for ending auctions early, there's nothing more annoying on ebay than the seller cancelling an auction early because the bidding isn't going their way. Auctions are a gamble, you put the item up for auction, you may win big, you may not, if your worried put a reserve on it.

I agree entirely as it is mega annoying when you are bidding and they remove it cuz they have taken a cash price so to avoid the 10% final ebay fees.

 

It happens so often no wonder they now hit you for ending it early. I would do the same

If its stated "Advertised elsewhere" then its fair game IMO, To be honest I ask most sellers before bidding/watching if they have a price in mind or if the auction is going to run to the end.

 

I see your point though, if you dont like the fees, the dont use the service!
