I wouldn't write off 3.5 tonne tippers when it comes to driving off road, we've had them in some really rough ground.

If you really want a 4x4 i'd rather go for a Trooper, Fourtrack etc over a defender, it'll be cheaper to buy a decent one and cheaper to run if your just starting out.

what is your budget for repairs and maintenance? the vehicle is only there to remove arisings. so why not take that out the equation. stick a tow bar on your little car, buy a little quad trailer and a small chipper like a greenmeck or jeabeu. and leave everything on site, this is very easy to do as long as you explain to the customer the benefits. you are 19 mate, dont become a slave to machinery and kit at your age, enjoy your life and free time, get paid for climbing, not dragging brash and pulling bogged vehicles out of wet boggy yards. i have spent thousands of pounds over the years and thousands of hours messing about with breakdowns and the like. keep it simple and target profitable jobs and good customers. or if you just want a reason to own a cool truck then go for it. but expect a lot of grief that comes with it. best of luck

Adam buy something you want to buy its ok asking for advise but your always going to get different views from different people which is a good thing but doesnt really help sometimes, at the end of the day its your money and its what your going to be happy with at the end of the day.

i had a hilux age 18-19, built simple cage sides for it, and of course can tow. car like inside so good to run about in too for everyday stuff, a transit imo would be a pain in the backside to run about in, go down the pub, into town

 

if you want a defender go for it, youre budget IS big enough for a decent one.

 

eg my mates selling his 110TD5 hardtop with decent wheels and tyres, 60-000miles, full lrsh 3.5K

If you are 19 mate, are you only going to be able to tow a trailer that weighs 750kg? This is a problem i have myself, i have a 90 but being 18 can only tow a small 750kg trailer, or have you passed the "trailer test" i forget what the proper name for it. lol
