I recently did a bit of work on a friends saw and really enjoyed the challenge of figuring out, how to and what goes where, i'm not in the business just a few pics with the phone and of course some help from you tube.

So i was thinking of looking for a second hand saw that might ultimately be a worthwhile addition to the armory, a classic if you like and that I could learn a bit more about how they work. Obviously spare parts must be available and not cost prohibitive. I was thinking of something like the stihl 260 . Any suggestions welcome

Stihl MS260 is as good a place to start as any. Solid, dependable saws and parts readily available. I think a lot of people will be holding on to them though given the chequered history of the replacement MS261 to date.

Hi,

the older Stihls are good ones, 260, 460 & 660 my favs.

Alternatively what about something like a Husqvarna 242 or a 288 ?

How about a 024, 026 ? bit cheeper than the MS 260 and still (no pun intended) grand saws in there own rite.

Ms460 old! It's my most reliable and favourite saw, admittedly spud has worked his magic on it. Just gutted I have a 661 as I delayed my purchase until the last 660s had gone! You don't need to buy an old saw to spend time working on them just buy a new husky!
