Hycrack log splitter problem

Hi chaps.

I was splitting some logs with my Hycrack today and managed to snap the shaft going into the cone! Usually the shear pin breaks but this time it was a thin piece of wood that got between the table and the cone. As it went in I had the feeling it wasn't going to end well and sure enough, it didn't!

The problem is, it's also cracked the bearing, so just a new shaft isn't going to sort the problem. I reckon it could be a write off! Has anyone else experienced this?

Also, if anyone here has one they don't use, how much do you want for it? Think I may need a new one!:001_rolleyes:

Bugger! Just read this yesterday and just done the same thing on mine this afternoon!!

Mine isn't a hycrack but a Kidd so no off the shelf replacement for mine !

Bugger! Although that does kind of help me to justify the extra cost of the Hycrack. Parts backup is handy. Doesn't help you though!

I've bought a length of bar to machine down in my lathe. Only down side is I can't really temper it accurately but I will have a go. If it breaks again it's not a big deal.
