Wholesale log suppliers a bit of help please I'm new sorry

Hello after doing some research on the internet Iv ended up here which I'm told is a good place to ask about what I'm after. Now a bit about myself I'm 28 years old I breed rare coloured French Bulldogs & pugs, there main source of heating is from multi fuel stoves 1 to each block of 4 kennels. Having litters due most of the year round I tend to keep the kennels at 25/26 degrees Celsius in whelping stages for the first 3 weeks then start to drop the temperature slowly, however this time of year the burners are as good as always on slow burn and my wood bills are thru the roof with a ton bag lasting a couple of days max.

I'm not scared of work I.e cutting and splitting logs with chainsaw & splitter if they are already seasoned saves me abit of time to start with but if the price is not much difference for the cut & split I don't mind paying the price if there is still something left in it for me.

What I'm looking to achieve is if I bought a load in bulk and sold to people in my local area for the right price it might cut my wood bills in half by me putting a bit of work in, A lot of my family and friends have all turned to log burners and at the moment I'm always having messages to as where did I get my last load from or Iv run out of logs could I pinch some until I get a sack dropped off.

I have a space at the side of my house say 12m long 5m wide and with a wall at the back roughly 5m high I have enough space to bulk buy to a certain extent.

What sort of prices am I looking at for a good size load of seasoned cut & split hardwood logs

&

What sort of prices am I looking at for a good sized load of seasoned but uncut & un split logs that I could do myself.

Im in the West Midlands area of Walsall just off junction 10 of the m6.

Any information would be great thanks sorry to bore you.

I can't help with the logs since I'm mid Wales but if you want to put a new boiler in any time soon you should look at the rhi grant which pays for the heat you make. It's a lot lower than it was but it would still come close to paying for all your fuel and you could probably get the commercial version which lasts 20 years.

Our price for big loads of hardwood is currently around £60 a cube delivered locally if you're interested but could easily be double near you.

It's very hard to get unprocessed seasoned hardwood but unseasoned is £55-£60 a ton around here.

Hello thank you for your reply I'm not really looking to put a new system in as yet but it's a thought for the future. I'm paying between £50-£60 for a builders bag of hardwood here every couple of days. I was thinking if I could get a lorry load dropped off it may be abit cheaper for buying in bulk.

A lorry load of bulk bags or roundwood.if y go for roundwood diameters over 14 inches will be cheaper as they are less suitable for processors.mainly the bigger diameter the cheaper the load but harder to cut and spit without specialist kit.can be done with axe and wedges but brutal.

Nick Channor who sometimes posts here could probably bring you a bulker trailer full of assorted green arb waste. He does have his own firewood buisness so I would not think there would be much nice timber in there and oversize Leylandi etc would probably feature. You would be looking at a 24 ton load, cost would usually be just the delivery costs but it is only available at odd times of year.

Have a look at this thread if you want a visual idea of how much wood is in one of Nick Channer's bulker loads. The photo posted shows 2 loads, the first already tipped the second on its way out of the lorry.

Will also give you an idea of what arb waste looks like as opposed to processed logs or roundwood.

After looking at one of nicks bulker loads I'd love one if it was all seasoned cut and split to size but looking at how much work would be involved there with a chainsaw & axe would take me far to long to sort out. I'm using roughly 6-8 builders bags a month so if I could get My hands on say 15-20 bags a month and selling the remaining bags to make some money back I'd be ok.

Hence the reason for showing you the photo before you commit to purchasing anything.

If you were to buy roundwood you would end up with the contents of a timber lorry (which you have probably already seen driving round at some point) neatly stacked so easier to process but you may not be able to move the logs by hand so it would likely involve climbing onto a stack of logs with a chainsaw which is not a very safe thing to do. You may also struggle with the amount of splitting with an axe so might need to invest in an electric splitter.

Processed logs is probably your best option as the extra expense does save you an awful lot of difficult work. Personally I would be flexible on the type of wood seasoned softwood or mixed hard/soft can be cheaper & burns very well. I used to sell hardwood & softwood separately but got so many requests for hardwood with a bit of soft mixed in that I now only do mixed loads unless by special request & have a few customers that only want softwood.

38 ton loads of imported kiln dried logs are available from some companies such as: Premium Kiln Dried Ash Firewood Logs Suppliers - Premium Kiln Dried Ash Firewood Logs Supplied and Delivered Nationwide but you will probably find a better deal from someone on here to be honest & you are far more likely to find somebody who uses 100% UK sourced timber rather than importing it from eastern Europe.
