I know this should be in employment but i figured more people read threads in general chat...

Does anyone know how to get a job with the MOD?

i've just started my ND arb, already got NC arb but to be honest the course is pretty pants, half of us did the NC last year and the other half have never used a saw before so i am not sure if i'm going to carry on with it yet.

i've wanted to be in the army for a long time but my parents (still living at home) don't want me going out into combat so i figured why not mix tree surgery with the MOD, i'm guessing all the british army bases in england, germany etc need tree surgeons/groundsman to manage them. Does anyone know what i'd have to go about to get in on it?

Cheers

Joe

As far as I know its all contracted out to tree companies, nothing is done "in house" by mod employed personell. Occasionaly they carry out some dimsantling work on salisbury plane using tanks and therefore combining tree work and target practice at the same time!!

Joe, I have two big regrets in life – one of those is not joining the Army (wont go into the other one) I think a lot of us Arbs would have done well in the Army, indeed there are a fair few ex service men that have left the forces and are now in our industry.

I think we all have that sense of adventure, the love of the outdoors, the adrenalin rush and don’t forget the male bonding!

If that’s what you really want to do – go for it, don’t spend the rest of your life thinking ‘if only I had’.

Good-luck. :001_smile:

Just turned 18.

I work with someone that was in the TA and he says it was amazing, but to be honest i don't think it would be worth joining it when i haven't got loads of work back at home, i think i would rather just join the full time army.

what does everyone think is a good thing to do in the army? I would like to join infantry but the way things are going out in afganistan and iraq i don't think it's the most sensible option
