Had my youngin 6months. Didn't have a clue when he started

I was told I could pay him 3.30£ HR for first year. Joke. I gave him £200 week plus £20 cash each Friday he goes to college (once a fortnight) and if he is in on the Friday not at college he gets £50 cash. After 15weeks I got a £1500 grant. It paid for my stump grinder

Can't cut hedges , sawdust brain , can't remember 3 instructions only 1 , needs to pick up the speed, ie copy my leg work on the ground (and I've a knackered back) , at 22 my 60 year old dad is a better groundsman but I see some light at the end of the tunnel

At times I think I should just chip in another £50 and get a qualified groundymans because an apprientice was meant to take away some stress (working with your dad can be a headache) but the youngin comes from a semi wonky background, and has bills to pay

In the new year he is getting his '6months to buck up your ideas and show some improvement'

We were all clueless once, in whatever trade

Sounds like you're either incredibly tolerant or feel very sorry for this individual... He would have been sacked pronto by my boss way before he got to six months!

I would have done the same too. I would only give him 1 month to buck up his ideas and show a vast improvement... Otherwise your going to be spending ALOT of money on him, which is pretty much wasted.

Yes i paid for there training. Including chipper, chapter 8, and climbing, prob nearer £5k. But if you get the right guy he'll be grateful, appreciative and you'll get that money back but having him apart of your business.

After you've got him climbing you can start paying him well then you've got a guy trained how you want him and hopefully cause you've been the one to take a chance he'll stick around.

Just my way, I like to give guys a chance that I wish I was given.

Damn I know I'd be appreciative if somebody did that for me and would definitely stay working for them for a good few years until I'd repaid my debts at least.

As mentioned though the problem is finding a decent lad or lass to take on in the first place!
