Dolmar 9010, Users Opinions Wanted

I've been considering a larger capacity saw to replace my Echo CS-701S-VL, I've looked at the Echo CS-8002 obviously but the Dolmar 9010 looks good on paper. I'm not really interested in a Husqvarna and don't want to spend the money on a Stihl for what will be an occasional use saw.

I may want to run up to a 28" bar on this saw now and then but mostly a 24", both the Echo & Dolmar rated to run 28"

On the subject of Stihl, I would consider a 2nd hand Stihl but not an Mtronic, what model should I be looking at? what about an M460? Stihl rated for a 24" bar but with 6hp which is more than the Echo or Dolmar I can't see a 28" being a problem.

I've just posted in another thread about these very two saws. I've had the 9010 and now got an Echo 8002. I would pick the 8002 because it's lighter but definately not a whole 10cc down in power terms than the 9010. Plus it's got a manual as well as auto oiler.

Our 8002 is on a 28"; sounds amazing, pulls the bar well in hardwood.

Both are old school, tonka tough. Very hard call despite them not being in the same cc class.

I have a suspicion that the Dol 9010 goes better than the Mak 9010 - Shavey will confirm or otherwise any differences.

As others have said - sprocket nosed bar is essential...

Yes they are the same saws now 100% before there where differences in ignition coils some of the older makita 9010 had the coil from the 9000 series but the dolmar has always had the newest set up but now they are identical

I can't comment on the echo but the 9010 is a good old saw and as many good people have said 28" + bars are a must and make use of all that torque
