8 or 16 ton snatch block?

Evening all,

I have recently acquired an 8ton hydraulic super winch and have some big hung up trees to deal with. I would like to buy a snatch block (for this and other jobs) to double the pull but I'm unsure what I need.

So.

3 questions that I hope someone could help me with.

1) Do I need an 8 or 16 ton snatch block?

and

2) Apart from the usual ebay etc etc, does anyone know of a UK supplier I could get one from?

3) Does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks for any help guys.

A good real world solution would be to get the superb 13 Tonne lightweight Snatch Block from Tajfun via Kilworth as an everyday redirect and normal duties snatch block.

It really is a work of art, and everyone who has used it simply loves it!

For the real heavy stuff get yourself the full 16 tonne version, but it will undoubtedly be a heavy lump in comparison and it can sometimes be difficult to get the correct size for the rope.

An eight ton winch on its own will pull back almost any tree if you can get the rope high enough , the bigger problem is stopping the winch vehicle being dragged forward. I spent all afternoon yesterday pulling back big pine windblown hung up trees with the winch on the front of the Massey and thats only a six ton. That was enough to pull them over including the root plate. You would need one mother of an anchor to secure a true 16 ton of line pull.

interesting point about whether you'd actually be able to stay put,

15ton for 22 - 24mm wire, it said on the listing you could click and collect at Argos, can't see the Argos staff wanting to lift that. I use click and collect if I'm not in for the courier, but checked the conditions and there is a weight limit8" 15 Ton ( 15000 kg ) Heavy Duty SNATCH BLOCK SWIVEL SHACKLE - Pulley Lifting | eBay
