I used VMware to take images, then if I want to look at something I run it up on this mint 17.

 

Yes, thats a good way to run Windows, Ive used VMWare for a good few years & Virtual box also quite a good solution, prefer VM Ware though very good for testing server confgurations & software etc

 

When Windows borks its easy to restore from a snapshot

Don't want it, how can I turn off the pop up which keeps asking me to upgrade? Even if I click "later" it proceeds to start an update. I've just been closing the window...

 

Its irritating at best, but unfortunately mS have made it complicated

Thanks for the link. I followed the process, pc has now been configuring windows before restarting for 3 hours...

OK, not quite sure why its should take three hours to re-config after a simple removal of an update.

 

MS cause a lot of grief by thrusting its incarnation upon everyone

 

Is it OK now?

Hi should have happened on a re-boot

 

Not sure why its stopped, I know that procedure to work - seems just another bloody useless quirk of windows Im afraid.

 

Maybe F8 on startup & last known good? or hold Windows key & press R, type msconfig & click OK
