I have been reading with anger at the recent spate of thefts and feel for the folk left without equipment to make a living.

One thing I would like to highlight and it possibly has no relevance to the particular thefts noted on here.

A couple of years ago I went to buy a motorbike, that was advertised on gumtree, I spoke with the seller who had put his phone number on with the add,to get directions to his house. As he was explaining the directions I happened to say Is your house next to the one with the red garage door.Yes he said .So off i set and bought the bike.

The seller ,who happened to be a policeman asked me how I knew about the red door that his neighbours garage had, quite rightly he was a bit suspicious.

I told him that on the gumtree advert you can 'click ' on directions and the map comes up with your address which you can then zoom in .He never asked for this when he placed the advert and you can see that some unscrupulous person can see what your selling and where you live.

I've got a chipper for sale on EBay at the moment, one bloke phoned up to come and have a look, when I mentioned that the chipper was at my house for viewing - not my yard - you could almost hear the disappointment in his voice - predictably he didn't turn up !!

That's why I don't have my address on cards, my kit is kept away from my home address and I don't have a sign-written, stick out like a sore thumb, follow me and rob me wagon. :001_smile:

This is my thinking too, as well as my cards and trucks being free of invitations to take my stuff, i also pay to advertise here there and everywhere, but you wont see my address on any of those adverts.

Didn't help me.... Robbing bastards cleared me out of saws, helmets, saw files wedges etc and most annoyingly all my fencing tools which I have been building up over last 12 years. In total about 7k worth of stuff plus having a truck stolen in February adds to the total
