Hey all,

Ive had a little ms180 for about 9 years,it gets little use nowadays so my plan is to do an exhaust/muffler(if your north american) modification on it to up the power,just too see how much i can get.If its a decent result i might look at modifying a larger saw,maybe ms261.

My question is just how difficult is it ?

Whats entailed?

Im pretty mechanically minded so im capable(i hope)

The 180 has no carb adjustment so is it possible just to mod the exhaust???

I opened up the louvers on my 170 exhaust outlet with a screwdriver, just pried them open a bit, that made it pull a bit harder, but don't go mad with no carb adjustment.

Just cutting the louvres off and bolting the plate back on makes a difference.

 

The exhaust port is inline with the depression between the bolt holes.Drilling a hole here will make a big difference.

Yes, and the hole idea might be worth a go, but watch for leen running, so I would look at an 8mm hole

The little Ms 170 will breath flames if you open the exhaust up to much .

i bought one of these for a ms170 that the carb rubbers were knackered. about a year ago and still ok.

 

 

i chose this one as it is adjustable, but may require some holes drilling in plastic side to get to the adjust. ~£8 is pretty fair for a new carb i reckon
