Hey all,

Were currently pollarding our street limes,so some lane closures, paths coned off, warning tape,signs,banksmen- the works.

Yet members of the public still persist too blatantly try and walk through coned off areas, complain that they have to park theyre car 10 foot further away from there house and generally be morons.

We left an area coned off, went for lunch and came back to find some idiot had moved the cones and parked the car in the area we needed to work in.

Some of you more experienced guys are probably used to this type of behaviour but im still relativley new to tree work so the publics blatant disregard for there own safety gauls me.

Id be interested to hear your stories of people being blatantly moronic.

Cheers

"I have to feed my horse and don't care that the tree has uprooted and is about to fall!

But don't worry, I'll walk back the other way":sneaky2:

Generally though it's along the lines of: I ALWAYS walk, run, park etc and nothing you say or do will stop me. I have rights (to be a moron?) you know!!!

There was a incident in America recently where a bike courier was wiped out by a falling tree after ignoring signs.

We had an unlocked car under a tree that we couldn't get moved. Handbrake off, 3 of us lifted the back up and wheeled it out of the way :)

Wish i could have done that today joe...no such luck the barsteward locked it

You will find that some people can be complete arse holes the more you work in arb!

people either love the fact that your killing trees or they hate it and

compare you to the devil!

jo public hates to have to walk more than necessary, they also dislike having to park their car 20 feet away from the spot they usually park in and you putting barrier tape cones etc will make their blood boil:sneaky2:

We once closed a side road off for around 30 mins while we worked on some trees, ive never had so much abuse and bullshit stories of why they had to go down this road "it was a cut through and you could walk around but would take an extra 3 mins" old boy in a mobility scooter called me all the names under the sun, lads were knocking bit tops over the road on purpose but he still wanted to go through! in the end i put my boot against his wheel so he couldn't move and politely told him to go around :001_tongue:

Folk don't see the danger but you let them walk through your work area and they get hurt and they will be straight in that solicitors office

Yep, had it am exclusive hotel in Old Windsor, area coned off, with tape around the cones, cutting and chucking, groundie stacking. All going great till lunch, then the hoorays came out for their din dins. Tape broken countless times, so they could cut out a 2 min walk around the building to the back of the restaurant. Groundie lost it with one of them and blink of an eye the assistant manager comes round, telling us that Our behaviour is not acceptable. I asked him what would happen if one of the guests were injured, he started to stumble and back track, then I asked him to get the manager out, who was the one who awarded us the work. When he came out he was nice as pie, apologised to us for his staffs lack of respect to our work area. He then went and spoke to the person who had complained about the groundie, who looked like a school boy being spoken to by the headmaster. Have been back many times since, which I was worried about not getting called back.

Not roadside works I know, but sometimes you do get backed up when you're not sure if you will.
