Sure Steve,

The Mitox is not a bad saw, the company are a good, family business.

But.... I am very careful who I sell it too. As said, its definatley NOT a pro user saw.

Even the best saw is only as reliable as the dealer who looks after it.

I did sell a CS38 a few years ago which was a right 'b****h' of a saw. After the customer had brought it back twice and was none to happy, I swapped it for a new saw as I could just not justify spending time and money on it compared with the price (cost to me) of a replacement.

Mitox would understandably not back me in this, as they prefer to fix, which i could have done but could not be arsed!

I know, I have used some home owner saws and some are quite passable, not a pro saw as you say but good enough for home owner logging for a few days a year.

Always difficult to get an idea if the expectations are too high, the saw has an issue or someone just needs to fine tune it, I guess it will sort itself out and sounds like you have a good relationship with them so understand the sentiment - lets hope it gets sorted!

Maybe I am expecting too much but when I pay £170 for a saw I expect it to as good if not better than the refurbished gardenline I paid £40 for.

I'm nor after name calling or trouble causing but I just wish I'd stuck to my own plan & not got talked into this by the salesman.

I'm off back to the shop this week so we will see what they say, if all fails I will just stick it on ebay & buy something else seen as I've just been 5old I've another 8-10 ton of hardwood coming

I am sure your dealer will sort it for you subject to my previous comments. Just explain that you are not happy and you expect it to work properly. Be firm, but polite. He will likely need a day or two to make sure its right.

Your dealer should really be the one to sort this for you, but if this fails, speak to Rochfords again, ask to speak to Michael Merrick and explain your problem clearly and without tantrums, he is the top guy in Mitox customer service and the buck stops with him.

Whereabouts are you in the country?

And how old is the saw?

Must of been a good salesman, it cost less than £150 when you bought it a couple of weeks ago.

When you take the saw back to the dealer take an average sized log out of your firewood pile with you, if they only have small diameter softwood on hand to test the saw they are not going to see the same problems you do. Taking them a decent size hardwood log for them to test it on will let them see it bog down themselves.

An efco mt3500 with a 14" bar & a sharp chain will cut 24" diameter oak so there is no reason your more powerful mitox should struggle with small diameter logs.

It was the 14" at that price but I went with the 16" as I felt it gave me more options also the chain is the same as my old saw so I would have a spare.
