Agreed on the zillion, cheap and easy to buy a micro pulley and some hitch cord. I use a positioner now (which I scorned in the past for being an expensive trinket) and wouldn't move back, but I climbed for years on a hitch.

Like Darrin, I find the petzl oval krabs to be pretty tough, but it's whatever shape and size suits you and your kit really.

Im going with a bungee strop for my saw.

The art positioner looks ace and its seems a lot of people on here love it so might go with that, What rope do you use with your ART?

Depends what you like in a chainsaw strop, slings come in different sizes so you could use whichever length you like.

Ive never used a bungee strop so cant comment on them.

With the Art positioner ive read good things but never used one.A cheaper alternative is the hitch climber set up.Although tbf you sound like your a kit junkie...

Im a bit of a kit junkie too..i like the shiney stuff!

Shiny Stuff! Shiny Stuff!

My boss uses a 1.5m strop and is constantly bashing his chainsaw about which I don't fancy so I'll try the bungee, It's not expensive to get a different strop so I can always switch.

It is great, but it isn't cheap. I treated myself to that one. Used a hitch with a cheap pulley happily for years before that mind.

I use 11mm velocity, as it's nice in the hand and easy to splice.

Any 11-13mm would work fine though.

Not really. I started out with a very basic kit and over the years built it up into what it is now. I don't buy useless crap, and don't have any more than I'll need on my saddle.

That said I've got no problem in spending out on kit that'll work well and make my life easier.

IMO a HC is overkill on a lanyard, cheap micropulley will do it. Wouldn't go back from a positioner now, but if you're just starting to get a kit together it's a lot to spend when a cheaper alternative is available and does the job very well.

I meant the HC set up instead of the art positioner or zigzag joe but it turns out he likes the shiney stuff

Endless loops are pretty horrible as chainsaw strops I've tried them, then there is the tear away that's not factored into them.

ART positioner is far superior in performance and on really skinny stems you can't bring in the system and feel comftable like the positioner as the knot is on the other side of the spar.
