Absolute bollocks. The steel used by Saturn knives is Swedish Udderholme tool steel, Basically the absolute best in the world. Every billet sold is x ray tested before it leaves the foundry. Their machining work is of the highest quality. Saturns knives are equal if not better than any OE knives.

I would be carefull casting aspertions if you dont know the full technical and engineering processes that go into tool steel knife manufacturing...

so are you saying that saturn knives are better than genuin blades

Has there not been hse reported cases of blade problem failures from non genuin blades

IMO GENUINE blades are what i would fit the blades are deigned around the machine and the machine designed aroud the blades

I did not cast any aspertions what i said was I would only fit genuin blades i never mentioned saturn or any manufacturer:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

We sell Saturn blades for TW. Will say only for TW only tho.

Why?

Well Bobs right. The blade is one of the most important parts in a chipper. Years of testing goes on to get them just right. I've seen pattern blades shatter in testing and there are different makes of all types out there. Some good some bad. I am in a position to no about Saturns history and have seen destruction testing of their blades compared with genuine on TW's own testing equipment. Lets just say the results satisfy me enough to sell them with confidence.

Other blades i'm not to sure about. TW and saturn blades are made out of Uddeholm Chipper Steel. Machining and heat treatment are identical. Not all chipper manufactures make their blades from this steel and on larger bladed machines I have seen the blades delaminate and break so i am still cautious.

To answer the original thread

anyone bought tw blades from saturn knives . are they any good?

You won't notice any difference. Apart from the price that is.

I see your point on the model numbers Hugo, But cant really see it being a major issue.

Bob, Mike has said what needs to be said about the quality. Saturns knives are as good as OE knives. I have seen genuine blades shatter on machines. In real life the chipper is not 'designed around the blades' - the blades are no more important than 10 other major components.

Ordering a set of Blades and receiving the wrong ones!

"But can't see it being a major issue"

Ok fit them in the machine and them tell me it's not an issue.

Maybe i live in a different world.

Good point, but I always get the dimensions checked before they send them. How long does it take to say for example - '300mm wide, 100mm deep and 12mm thick, hollow grind'

That is beside the point however. My point is that Saturns knives are of equal quality to OE knives. if you want to pay 3 times the price for your knives just in case you get the wrong set....

I use saturn every time. I have had one blade break in 10 years of Entec/timberwolf ownership. That one cracked off across the corner through the screw hole.

I'm not so keen on the replacement screws with hex heads they do, but originals now are made with shallow heads and the torx hole breaks out more easily.
