My final review of Piranha chain came earlier than I expected....

It's roughly half worn. Then one of the cutters broke off today. They were all there first thing this morning.... then I cut some wood (without hitting any stones, metal or dirt), then I went to resharpen it and found one of the cutters had completely vanished - not just on the top edge.... the whole cutter had gone.

So that confirms it for me. Not such a bargain. I'll not be buying them again, or any other cheap chains.

Cheers, steve

I'm about to trial some .404 on the harvester. If it performs as bad as it looks... If it breaks and puts chain-shot in the margard window I'll be savage...

They reckon it will be miles cheaper; hmmm...

My half worn pihrana snapped today as I was cutting trough a 3 inch sycamore branch

Me thinks the advertising description/ marketing has been ever such slightly exaggerated. :withstupid:

The chains I bought for my topping saw when they first came out were brilliant and cut really well and lasted ages, the new batch I bought recently were piss poor, even the cutters were miss shaped on some of them.

I think they make things up as they go along anyway.

Husky 365 24" chain on their site (£24.19 for 2 chains).

Piranha Chains For Husqvarna Chainsaws

Ebay price for 2 24" husky 365 chains (£18.38).

GENUINE PIRANHA CHAINSAW SAW CHAIN *PACK OF 2* FITS HUSQVARNA 365 24" BAR | eBay

At first glance ebay sounds a better deal but when you look at the details you see the chain gauge is different (063 on the ebay one) making those chains completely useless. No point contacting them to ask them to sell you the correct chain as they don't reply to messages.

Does seem a bit odd that they publish quotes from & link to this thread as part of their advertising though as they have stopped posting on it themselves & the negative comments are monting up quite quickly now.

Just bought some stihl chains today for my topping saw, it's a killer having to go back to paying 3 X the price of a piranha chain but them last ones I bought were shite

If cheap chains like Piranha aka Rotatech break so readily (which they do) then it certainly ain't as cheap as they like you to believe.

cheers, steve
