Beasties in logs

Hello

So I don't do a lot of logs. We probably burn 12/14 cube a year then the in laws get a few cube and other veriouse family and friends and customers that ask and I like to keep happy. Only really been doing it the past 3 years or so and have come across a few beasties along the way. Now it's fine if what I burn has holes in it but it bothers me if selling to customers. This year I have had a problem with ash. The logs get peppered with tiny holes all over the bark and make all the logs in the bag covered with dust. The holes are only in the bark and not in the wood and it's only on the ash? For my customers I want to give a quality product. Can I do anything preventative or is it just luck?

Sounds like you have ash bark beetle. Our logs get this but I explain to customers what it is and that it won't destroy their furniture and they have all been happy so far.

Thanks! I have tried to poke about with a log to try and identify one of the little critters but I can't seem to find one as yet. I wonder if they move out at a point in the year?

I have had wood wasp in oak before but as I was splitting it I could pull the grubs out and identify them. I would just set aside any infected logs for myself. These ash bugs seem to spread pretty easily though.
