I think your Grufalo head is great, the only trouble I have with painting sculptures is that it's no longer obvious that it's been carved from wood - could be anything fibreglass, papier machee.... etc - and think that's a shame

Thanks everyone for all the comments, I delivered Gruffalo last Friday to the playgroup and the kids were over the moon, commenting on the orange eyes so I think in this case it may have worked.

I have just carved a dragon ..... Gues what...... I painted the eyes and tongue !!!! I'm doomed :lol:

 

I will post a new thread for the dragon when it's finished.

I used dark oak woodstain on the main body, tung oil around the nose and mouth, but needed the paint for the finer characteristics.
