Not keen on most of the 6x4 landrovers I see, but that 6x6 looks cool.

I would prefer to see a transit / iveco sized vehicle with a decent 6x4 rear axle, and 4 tonne carrying capacity. That to me would be perfect for ARB work.

 

Or the big cabstar, but with 4x4.....is it called a canter?

On a 4x6 the drive is on the front four wheels, with the rear axle being a 'floating' axle. They are considerably better off road than a 4x4, and a 6x6 such as a carmichael is better again.

 

I have a hicap based 110 tipper and i have just been out to look at the plate which states 3500kg gross. I have put helper springs in it too. As far as i know it doesnt have a beefed up chassis though.:confused1:

Nissan dont make anything bigger than the cabstar. The Canter is a Mitsubishi, dont know if they do a 4x4 version but from the 4x2 ones I'v driven, I dont think they would make a good off road vehicle.

Locks the two axles together like a diff lock, but over two axles. Without it the back wheels will just loose traction and spin in soft ground, as all the weight of the vehicle will be on the middle axle with the stiffer springs.

Not sure to be honest. The demo model that i looked at, just had the middle axle diff converted to a straight through diff, with the extra driveshaft for the 3rd axle coming straight outta the other side.

 

As for locking, surely that still have the same effect as locking the centre diff, as the 3rd axle would just be included with the 2nd axle on the front/rear split?

Suppose it would. Did have a look on the Foley website but they arent very forthcoming.

That was who i went to in researching my 6x6..... they still do them, but recon they don't have enough interest in them any more, to warrant making a serious go of them.

 

They'll happily do bespoke/one off stuff though.

 

I also spoke to Rogers of Bedford, about covering any work under warranty, as in theory, the mods detract from the original L/Rover warrant.

 

They were more than happy to do any warranty work, as they recon that only the original rear diff would be the only main part affected by the mods.
