Vox ac 30 c2 ,.

Any one got or used an AC30 C2 ?? Got a Fender Blues Junior Tweed Rat and love it but fancied a go on the Vox . Like the built in trem and reverb ( saves on pedals ! ) ....any one ??

Not sure what a C2 is? Got an original top boost AC30.. 1967 ish I think.

I tried out a AC15 last year- amongst others- blues junior etc. It was certainly a nice amp with plenty of scope for versatility and a nice crunch too when turned up. Im told (but not tried it) that the vox with the celestion blue speaker is peferable to the greenback speaker. I think that it would come down to perferable taste though- and budget as the celestion blue is an extra £200.

The wildcard i tried was the blackstar valve amp 5watt- incredible amp for the money.

I tried out a re-issue ac30 not long after they were launched.... absolute crud in comparison with the original ones.

I think the AC30 was the defacto amp of its time & has never really been equalled, theres something about valve amplifiers that is difficult to define until you listen to them.

Not sure what it'd be worth now? It cost over £2k about ten years ago.

Probably not as much as my first AC30 that got stolen out my van. that was one of a matched pair, ex Brian May.... absolutely amazing sound, even better sounding than the one I've got now. I originally paid £300 for that! jeeeesh!!!!

I had one of these for a while, would love an original. She had to be sold though because it was so loud to get it anywhere near breaking up. Really wanted to be in a booth, shame as it sounded nice.

 

I've had a Jackson ampworks Britain for about 3 years now and believe they are a lovely Head and cab. Much nicer sounding at lower (Sensible) volumes and they are stunning when turned up, in my opinion just as nice as early Vox's. + they are hand built and the quality is fantastic.

 

EDIT: realised that doesn't help your question. Having played other modern Vox combos and head and cabs I would not bother. They are nothing special.

I used to have an AC30 not an original one of the modern versions. It was still a cracking amp real old school tube tone. I used to put my epiphone casino through it and it was a real vintage sound. Should never have sold the thing but times were hard a few years back so my guitar collection had to be made smaller well that's what the missus made me do 😜
