Navara quick question

Trying to source a vehicle for around the 4k budget tops.

Needs to get in and out of woods and tracks, also tow a trailer occasionally.

 

Found a navara with 68k miles on it but seem to have read about gearbox issues and I can't afford to kill another vehicle.

 

Any help guys?

Not aware of gearbox issues but dependent on engine type they have a habit of dropping a big end and putting a conrod out through the block :thumbdown:

 

There is a known fix where the big ends are opened up and checked - new shells and bolts fitted - stitch in time and all that

 

If you do go ahead and buy it we have a donor vehicle for spares - less engine

What year is it the d22 suffered from all sorts of problems 03 04 05 been the worst mix this with poor maintenance and you got problems.

 

Cracked heads / gasket problems

 

Big end failure

 

Timing problems

 

I had a d22 and spent 4k in 9 months.

 

Try and find one with a service history and look after it

I run a 54 plate navara, had it for a year now and love it!

 

Great in fuel compared to my old l200, will tow 3 tonne. My mate had it before me from new.

 

If it blew up id put an engine in it for sure! I love it

Thanks again, I'm hoping at mileage it should be a good un. Do you know if they have belts or chains for the timing?
