What's the latest Taupo?

Went to see a mental health worker yesterday just to get my head straight a little. She suggested playing it month by month or week by week even and just basically dumbing myself down. Really hard for me to do that but for the sake of my sanity.......

Soooooo lots of thinking but it has made me get my A into G which is probably no bad thing. Currently trying to sort a website, re establishing connections with commercial clients, getting my H&S together for approved contractor applications and generally trying to drum up work. My Mind is working over time; one half telling me to jump ship now and the other half pulling on the reigns so I can get as much out of my employer as possible. A good friend of mine is also out trying to drum up work so now it's a waiting game to see what the bosses next move is and to get all my stuff in order.

HR not the slightest bit interested either. They've always been toothless and to be honest, the CEO put my current manager in place so I don't think he's going to be one for listening. Also have to be careful not to burn too many bridges just in case there's a chance of contracting back to them.

Long story short; it'll be a week by week thing from now on in.

Should also say thanks for all the input. I was quite surprised just how prevalent this kind of thing is.

Unless you have no choice, you would be better off forgetting about working with them again as you would probably be always wondering if they were looking to screw you over again. The only use they are to you now is to bankroll you for your 1st few months until you find your feet again. At the risk of repeating myself, get yourself a chat with a good employment law specialist.

Not to contradict any of Felix's comment, just another perspective.

I have worked for people in employment, not treated well by them, then later on gone to work for them self employed and even though you do less and charge them more they treat you much better:confused1::001_rolleyes:

Also these wannabe office manager types are likely to move on due to stepping on other peoples faces in their ladder climbing exercises.

Well done TTM on having the balls and sense to see a professional about mental health. A good un can give you phenomenal constructive perspective.

Well, I've put a in for two weeks leave and two weeks leave without pay. Also said that id be happy to take the rest of December off as leave without pay in order for both council and I to decide whether by future lies with them. It also gives me enough time to get things together as far as contacts, H&S, website etc and see what work is actually out there before I burn all bridges. Not quite what I intended originally and I'm so messed up in my head that it's actually hard to figure out what I want to do. A month off will give me the opportunity to clear my head and think straight.

The mental health worker has helped. I'm aware that people go through way worse than this daily with sick kids, business stresses etc. it's also hard to admit that you feel like you're being bullied by a woman half your age but hey, if me admitting that's how I feel then maybe it could help others in a similar situation.

And thanks for all the input, support and messages. It does help. Shows what an awesome community we have here.

Two weeks on........ What's the state of play now?

Well, currently into my first week off doing my own thing. I have another 3 (1 annual leave and 2 weeks leave without pay). Applied for another, short term position within council to tie me over but trying to get my business up and running properly again. The short term position is only a six month fixed term contract in a completely different department but currently, eyes are definitely on going back full time. Website is being developed, new business cards are done, just bought a stump grinder so all I need is the work. I have the next three weeks pretty much fully booked.

Also heard through the grapevine (after the management started being really REALLY nice) that they had been warned I was going to put a PG in. I don't know where they got this from but the tone of conversation has definitely been improved.

So, I suppose, rather than back tracking, I'm just delaying the inevitable until I'm completely set up. It's been awesome this past week though, working back with my ex 2ic from council and my best mate as a 3 man team. Good being able to see the job right through from go to whoa. Sleeping better, and feeling positive. A bit more of a clear head not being in that council environment and able to concentrate on getting stuff set up and sorted.

The councillor has helped put a little clarity in to things and advised that I take things a week at a time. She's more about teaching me to deal with what I actually know rather than what I think could happen (at council) and how to "swipe" negative thoughts away. To bring sub conscious thoughts to the front of my mind and then deal with those thoughts rather than have them gnawing away in the back of my mind. Also a few relaxation techniques, although I haven't tried these yet.
