You would not want to haul around our hills on hydraulic brakes especially a trailer on hydraulics.

We do it perfectly well on the south downs

The method of applying the brakes is irrelevant its the actual drums and shoes fitted that make the difference

Look under neath an air breaked silage or grain trailer and you will see the air piston and the hydraulic piston actuate the same leaver going into the brake drum for the s cam

Therefore it is completely irrelevant which you use air just operates quicker

And there are agricultural trailers on air with 4.5 inch brakes pads these would be worse for breaking than full width comercial drums with hydraulic pistons

We run 10 trailers at work and the ones with lorry axles and hydraulic brakes stop great

The ones with air and hydraulic that is standard on newer trailers is nothing like proper lorry breaking anyway

speed doesnt come in to it, even after the change in RTA rules for tractors in england and wales earlier this year, your still limited to 25mph, end of, so it doesnt matter what gearbox, how many hp, or whether it has air brakes or not, unless you have suspension on each of the 4 wheels, you aint going any faster.......3points and £100 says so
