Tree climbing as a hobby or sport.

I've been reading the forum for a while now & I appreciate that you're all professionals that do this for a living.

People consider rock climbing as a hobby or sport, why not tree climbing?I always loved climbing trees as a child & have recently rekindled that interest.

The reaction from family though is,"Are you mad?" "Don't you think you're a bit old for that?" I have all the necessary safety equipment & am competent in it's use.

I'm sure if I'd taken up rock climbing, the reaction would have been different.

Why is there such a distinction between the two?

I do it as a hobby. Just started and I'm 41. Certainly gets the heart going and that's not just from the climb!

Couldn't agree more about the heart rate, not sure if it's a good thing at the minute.I'm 60 with high blood pressure!

.. sat at the top ... taking in the sunset over suburbia.

That's what it's about.:thumbup1:

...Who gives a toss wot anyone thinks-if you enjoy it do it.

That's always been my philosophy.Unfortunately the law thought otherwise.:laugh1:

Spot on.

I should recy climb more often.

Can't argue with that.
