Not rocket science! It's a modified Swedish candle, there's a saw cut underneath which draws air to centre similar to the mini rocket candle you put a night light in bottom of. Noticed they'll let you know once patent is gained so you can't do em!

How would you go about carving out the cavities?

If I was making a batch I would probably make a router jig. For just the odd one a carving bar wouldn't take long, just boring:sneaky2:

If you go to Asda they are selling their disposable BBQs off for 75p a go.

Or just get a dry log and cut two or three cuts down it with the chainsaw (I use my sawbench)

 

Don't know why you need anything more complicated other than charging a fortune for it.
