Newbie in Newark needs a Saw

Hi all

 

new guy here, non pro just a home DIYer with a couple of questions

 

First off, what would you suggest as a sensible home use saw. Looking for something to cut trunks into lengths I can then split for the woodburner. 've been using a friends Husqvarna 266XP with a 20" bar which was great but really need to get my own saw. Won't be tackling anything bigger than 18" diameter and only have £200ish to spend so probably looking at something secondhand?

My vote would be a Dolmar PS-35 or Makita equivalent.

 

Speak to Shavey or Timber Cutter Dartmoor.

 

P.s you won't need an 18" bar to cut 18" diameter, nor will you pull one with the above saw.

 

How much will you cut on a regular basis?

Yep +1 for the above or you should be able to get a 'Husqvarna 236' or a 'Stihl 170/171' for that kinda dosh, my local dealers are selling the 'Husky 236' for about £185-190 and another is selling a 'Stihl 170' for £179 and the '171' for £199 !...

 

Ps, the husky will be a 15" bar and the Stihl a 12-14" bar...

He's local to you at Kirklington and usually has s/hand serviced saws for sale.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, like the look of the Husky 135 so may go with that

 

TurtleWoods72 really didn't want to go above £200 and not in any huge hurry but would like to get something in the next month or two.

Dolmar 420 works out at £250 for a 42cc saw that will pull an 18inch bar no problems

What about getting what you know . Good second hand 266 or similar . Send it to spud for a birthday and jobs a goodun ?
