Drowned refugee children

I very much doubt that those people putting their children on those boats are doing it because they think they will get a better life. They are doing it because they are desperate and have no other option.

It shows how terrible it must be where they live and how lucky we are to be born in the UK.

Exactly.

Following the Arbtalk General Election Poll I'm not surprised at some of the self-interested inward looking responses.

Yes we are very fortunate to live in the uk . I for one hope it stays that way . Although if the government keeps on letting criminals into the country its going to become a very tense place to live especially in the big city's . My real gripe is the fact that many new arrivals will not integrate ? Many times I have popped into a corner shop 6 miles from my home . Just lately it seems to be full of none speaking middle eastern young men . Who stare at us in an unfriendly way . The atmosphere was once good with general chit chat now they just grunt and will not give you the time of day .

The thing is that some previous immigrants into Europe haven't really integrated into European society...

I'm all for giving countries like Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan etc money to look after the Syrians, but I would be against mass Syrian migration into Europe.

A refugee is supposed to claim asylum in the first port / country they reach. Most are not escaping purely for their safety they want a better life and I am sure if I were in the same situation I would want the same. They (most) are ILLEGAL immigrants when they reach the UK yet they are given homes, money, healthcare, etc.

However this country has major issues that need resolving before we pile any more on our plate. Numerous homeless, drug and alcohol dependants, starving and cold elderly people, children living in poverty, massive unemployment. We need to shut our borders to all people who do not bring something positive that the country needs. Housing should not be provided, healthcare should not be free and cash should not be given out.

I know these are harsh comments but why for example should my grandparents both work their entire life, pay a boat load of tax and save their whole working life have every penny and the house taken from them in old age for specialist care for one of them in a dementia home yet they share it with someone who has come to this country as a dependant of an illegal immigrant who gets identical care for free?

We need to get our house in order as the current rate of economic immigration will sink the country. I know the migrant crisis won't wait for us but something needs to be done to ensure refugees are helped (preferably in their own country) and illegal economic migration is stopped.

Let the abuse begin!!!

Doesn't bode well for 'integration.'

that's the thing, you feel sorry for all those people that are dying in war zones etc. but they come from a culture that encourages conflict...

will they change when they get a European passport...

I agree with every word!!!

Me too.

I notice these people all seem to be cutting about in the latest branded sportswear etc, so they're not the poor goat herding folk the media paints them to be.

A lot of people have put a lot of blood, sweat, tears and taxes into making this country what it is. We (they) didn't do that so some Adidas adorned Syrian who fancies a life in a cosy flat watching DVDs can come over and get endless handouts of Diazepam for his 'ptsd'.

Send em home, blow up IS, job done! :thumbup1:

Err perhaps not in that order. :001_tongue:

:thumbup1:

This thread will go the way of all the usual political et al threads; lefty vs righty, same old. :001_rolleyes:

Ummmmm, not really, not for me anyways. That's not to say I don't sometimes like a Guardian article, I do. But this one, I couldn't read more than first few paragraphs unfortunately.

"I’ve been canvassing opinion among Guardian colleagues" hardly presents a balanced overall perspective!

Let's just call anyone that doesn't immediately open their house a racist is what I read between the lines in that article.
