What bar oil do you use?

I'm using the Clark supertack bio but thinking about swapping to pure rapeseed from the supermarket?

I realise there's been about a zillion threads on it before but what's people's opinions on straight rapeseed oil?

 

From my extensive research online, reports vary.

 

Negatives seemed to be; gumming up oil pumps, bars and chains becoming mouldy and rancid, bars and chains wearing out faster, smelling like a chip shop.

 

Positives seemed to be; cheap and readily available, environmentally friendly and better for your health when breathing in the mist, and one guy said his dog would lick the saws clean in the back of the truck on the way home, saving him cleaning time. I hope the scabbards were on!

 

I'll let you try it and report back. I don't think its too far off what the Bio Oils are, except they contain additives and secret potions to make it more.....

I've been running rapeseed for years. No gumming, no strange smells(aside from a slight doughnut smell with some woods), and my bars last well. I also certainly do not baby my saws.

Don't think I've seen that much wood in real life, it's like one of my dreams!!

Total T150 seems to work very well for mine, although its a bit warmer here in France so it may gum up a bit further north!

Probably good for all my brood apart from the dang Stihl. Silly little bar holes,

I used to use engine oil but always had trouble with chain stretch. Changed to generic brand or stihl or whatever is available when I'm after some and I've had no problems since.

I use foresters red oil or Worley's chain Oil from the oil baron on the mendips :thumbup:
