  1. Has anyone else had problems with their Husky 550xp carburettor? Mine has done 86 hours from new (over 4 years). Would start up ok from cold but after a couple of minutes would starve of fuel. Husky agent has now fitted a new carb. Why would this happen? I've run a 254xp, 346xp and 357xp for years, no problems. I have always used regular petrol, not premium, and API TC, JASO FB spec 2 stroke oil. Could this be the issue? Agent wasn't sure why carb needed replacing. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated so I can avoid this reoccurring.

  3. Yes, fuel leak is most noticeable when just filled. It looks like the breather has come adrift from the tank. How does that line connect? There is currently just a hole.
  4. My 346 has been dribbling fuel for a while. When I get to investigate, there are 3 lines coming from/to the tank. One has a shaped end attaches to a nipple, the carb feed passes through from tank to carb and the third is, I presume, the return from the priming bulb. This last one looks to be the problem. How does the primer return attach to the tank? There is a hole which the line must attach to but the line is not attached nor can I see how it would. Any suggestions?
  5. None around in Kielder yet that I've heard of. FC say that the nurseries don't like to lift them 'til they've had a touch of frost.
  6. I used to use engine oil but always had trouble with chain stretch. Changed to generic brand or stihl or whatever is available when I'm after some and I've had no problems since.
  7. Old farmers trick is to cut a strip off a car innertube and use it like a large elastic band round your ankle. Tuck the waterproofs into the band and you have instant waders - well not quite, but it will buy you a few more seconds when your foot goes in a wet hole!
  8. I've had the same problem with husky bars, never with the Oregon prolites. Mind you, I'm only an occasional user - felling for a month then nothing for a while.
  9. I've had trouble with those Husky bars seizing on the nose sprocket. I go for the Oregon pro-light and have had no problems with them.
  10. Used to use a Tirfor t35 - bomb proof but weighs a ton. No good if you're working a distance from the van. Bought a 1600kg Jet hoist winch last year - less than half the weight and will lift the same with a snatch block - not that I ever need that much umph! (I've pulled the van out of a couple of ditches with it!) I heard that the Tirfor patent expired and now it's non-slip design has been copied successfully by Ace, Jet etc. I'm not sure if the "get what you pay for" addage stands any longer on this one.
  11. Got a 550xp a couple of months ago and on first start, sunk it into some biggish stuff. It was a bugger to start for a time or two after that but sorted itself out and now runs as it should. I guess the AT sorts it. I'm sure I saw in the Husky manual that you should nurse them a little for the first few hours though the advice on here seems to be to work them hard from the outset. That worked for me.
